According to the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health, 25% of nail technicians had complications during pregnancy, compared to 8% of the general population, and they are 3 times more likely to have babies born with birth defects. 400,000 nail salon workers in the US are mostly Asian and Hispanic immigrant women who suffer from occupational exposure to these hazardous chemicals.

Keratin Nails is being created by Dr. Jiye Son, a female PhD Chemist with 10 + years working in nail salons. She wears nail polish every single day and prioritizes her weekly nail care as a beautiful form of self-care. However, Dr. Son recalls “working in a nail salon is like working in a chemistry lab without any personal protection equipment and fume hoods!” As an entrepreneur, she decided that her favorite self-care and beauty routine should be and can be good for our nails, health, and planet too.
